Apostle’s second release sees newest band member Max Thomas supplying Baritone saxophone. Also filling out the sound is Daisy Savage on backing vocals.
It’s quite a different tune to their debut (The Well) and this might have something to do with the additional writing contributions from David Blair-Chappell. But it’s also clear that Apostle have so much to offer; this is a band who are pushing their ideas and diversity.
The 60s love and peace melodies of The Well are no more. Eat Your Head comes out of the speakers as a DNA descendant from early 70s Black Sabbath. Now this isn’t a copy of that sound. It’s a modern variation but the guitar riff is classic – a hazy but powerful killer riff. And it just gets better. The twisting psychotic lick that comes in over the riff is superb.
Aaron’s vocals again show his ability, a sweet clear tuneful voice that counter balances the music so well. This time around they make use of backing vocals too which really adds to the energy. Time for a brief instrumental break with a variation on the main riff before the chorus. And the chorus is a beauty, a real earworm. The last minute or so of the song is breath-taking as the music pummels you into submission. Much more please guys!
